Conservative Management in a Ventilated Preterm Neonate with Pneumopericardium, Pleural Effusion, and Pulmonary Collapse: A Case Report
Background: Neonatal pneumopericardium (PPC) is a rare clinical condition usually associated with other air leak syndromes. It increases morbidity and mortality due to cardiac tamponade. Case report: A preterm male neonate weighing 1260 g was born with the gestational age of 28 weeks. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was routinely performed without any medical therapy. The newborn was transferred ...
متن کاملEmergency stenting of vertical vein in a neonate with obstructed supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage.
A late preterm newborn baby presented with respiratory distress and increasing cyanosis within 2 hours of birth. Bedside transthroracic echocardiography showed a critically obstructed vertical vein in a supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage (TAPVd). Emergency stenting of the vertical vein was successfully performed at 24 hours of life.
متن کاملAutoamputation of Congenital Hairy Polyp in Neonate with Stridor and Respiratory Failure
Hairy polyp of the oronasopharynx is a rare developmental malformation. It is usually seen as a pedunculated tumor in the neonate. It is classified as a dermoid since it is derived from the ectoderm and mesoderm. We describe a neonate with a hairy polyp originating from the right lateral pharyngeal wall causing significant respiratory distress with cyanosis and stridor immediately after birth. ...
متن کاملMasking of the Symptoms of Bilateral Congenital Choanal Atresia by a Coexisting Anomaly of the Upper Lip.
Congenital choanal atresia (CCA) is the developmental failure of the nasal cavity to communicate with nasopharynx. Bilateral CCA is an acute emergency in an obligatory nasal breathing neonate. The bilateral involvement in this anomaly presents immediately after birth as respiratory distress and cyanosis, except while crying. We herein describe a newborn with bilateral CCA presenting with no dis...
متن کاملThoracoscopic Plication for Bilateral Eventration of Diaphragm in a Neonate
A 6-day-old female baby delivered by Caeserean section was admitted for respiratory distress. On admission, the baby was tachypnoeic, respiratory rate more than 60/ min with cyanosis requiring oxygen of 8 l/min to maintain satisfactory O2 saturation. An X-ray chest and abdomen taken, was suggestive of bilateral eventration of diaphragm (Fig. 1). An USG and CT scan confirmed the diagnosis. The E...
